I had the privilege of working as an art outsourcing manager on Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4, including both the alpha and beta art phases of multiple maps. The alpha phase involved going from gray box to first art pass and was pivotal in establishing the art direction and core 3d content of the map. The beta phase involved improving and building on the art that was introduced during alpha, including introducing new art content and taking the map to a polished final state.
My responsibilities included creating briefs for external artists, dictating art direction and best practices, providing regular asset review and feedback, collaborating with internal and external producers to ensure content was aligned with the roadmap goals, providing hands on 3d work, and closely collaborating with lead artists to ensure the project vision was successfully realized.
I was also the bug owner for the Movie Studio and the Los Angeles maps. This involved hands on tackling of art, collision, performance and gameplay bugs in a rapid and dynamic schedule.
Thanks to the many talented artists I was privileged to work with on this project. Kevin Lass, Dan Comella, and Ben McArdle for their close collaboration and leadership contribution to this project and the rest of the environment team for their involvement in bringing these maps to life. Also to our great external partners, Art Bully, and Room8. We could not have done it without their hard work and dedication to this game.
